CO's ain't goin' nowhere...
They afford the society an AMAZING amount of control over local elder bodies.
And in the end, most of their expenses are picked up by the local congregations/circuits.
WIN/WIN for the society.

a SIMPLE answer re: 607 please
by RayPublisher ini know it's a complicated topic, and i've spent gobs and gobs of hours studying it and realizing that 586/587 is the most likely date.
so anyway, here's my question:.
how could jerusalem's fall be 587 but still be in line with the scriptures about 70 years of desolation that the wto uses to push 607 so strongly?
-

So this is simple...
Go to NYC to the JEWISH MUSEUM - 1109 5th Ave @ 92nd st
Notice THEIR TIMELINE for when JERUSALEM WAS DESTROYED.
I'll give you one hint:
IT WASN'T 607 BCE.
after that, take in a broadway show, perhaps 'The Book of Mormon'...

This convention blows
by Anony Mous inseriously, half day in (already had an argument with the wife this morning about individuality in the organization in which she conceded that a lot of it is based on looks) and this is already getting on my nerves.
i'll post a rebuttal based on my annotations later in the week but one thing i got to get off my mind: saying the feminist movement (women going to work instead of staying home) and the diversity laws (allowing for homosexuality - but also religious freedom, racial discrimination etc.
) caused a lot of the problems in our world right from the stage.. there are less people here than last year - about 500 less..

ANONY MOUS - any mention of how 'happified' we should be because god's kingdom has already been reigning 97 years, just 900+ years to go? I think that was mentioned by a bethel speaker on Friday......

NEW SYSTEM COMES TO THE U.K.
by St George of England inwell from 1st september 2011 anyway!.
the magazine distribution that has been running in the u.s. where publishers do not have personal magazine orders but collect from a common pile at the back of the kh is to be introduced here.
in view of the success of the system over the past year it will be introduced to the u.k. as announced this week.. the idea behind the new arrangement is 'to prevent wastage'.. george.

MICKEY MOUSE - the thought of scooping up the whole table of mags has crossed my mind more than once. We could throw the whole lot on Flipper's Lake Tahoe Apostafest campfire and make S'mores!

Growing up a Jehovah's Witness - New Video
by jwfacts ini have put together a video - growing up a jehovah's witness 1960 -2010. it aims to show the things a witnesses would be taught as they age over those decades.
it is 15 minutes long.
this is my first attempt at a video and it took a while to work out how to use final cut, so please feel free to make suggestions if anything should be changed.

Overall I liked the video, and agree with the others about the text/narration issues...
I think this video would be effective for anyone not already in the org. or someone with very serious doubts who's practically out anyway.
As far as swaying anyone who's 'in', cognitive bias/dissonance would kick in and their BRAIN=OFF.
Being basically raised JW (but in a 'divided household') the serious tone of the video rings true, but I think there's something to be said for humor's role in opening eyes to the ABSURDITY of this religion.
For that reason, I REALLY LIKE the YouTuber who put out the cartoons of the WT study, Family Worship Night etc. (not sure how to make a link, but I think you know who I mean. Does he/she post here?)
BTW - I LOVE LOVE LOVE JWFACTS. It is awesome. Thank you!!!

'BELIEVE IT OR LEAVE IT' - a long time faders dilemma.
by nicolaou ini've noticed a lot of newbies aren't bothering with long fades from the wt.
good for them, perhaps this younger, more savvy generation are more comfortable sticking two fingers up to the organisation and forcing their families to make the uncomfortable decisions about associating with them.. i applaud you, you were happy to believe it or leave it.. me?
i submitted my last field service report more than 11 years ago and have been 'fading' ever since, and i'm sick of it.

I'm just coming up on the one year mark of being 'mentally' liberated from all this nonsense, and my fading regiment consists of MINIMAL, NON-PRODUCTIVE field service (Starbucks loves my car group), I don't answer or give talks at the meetings - basically, I'm just biding my time, not rocking the boat, not making any waves...
How do I put up with it all without going crazy?
I read Festinger's "When Prophecy Fails" and could only imagine what it was like to be one of the 'infiltrators' in the bizarre UFO cult...
But wait, I can do the same thing! This became 'my little project' for the next however many months, years...
I TRULY BELIEVE THIS RELIGION IS GOING TO BE ROCKED IN THE NEXT 5-10 YEARS...
...and if I can stand it, I'll be witnessing the whole thing from within.
In other words, this is 'my little project' for as long as I can take it.
